Great news for the rainforests (and us)!

I woke up this morning with a message from Greenpeace that made me really happy:
Dear Friends,
There is no time to waste if we want to protect the last Sumatran tigers and the rainforests they call home.
Because of you, we’re one step closer to protecting the last Sumatran tigers.

Our campaign to get Mattel, the world’s biggest toy company, to stop doing business with Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) has ended in a resounding victory. This is great news for Indonesian rainforests and the communities and wildlife that depend on them. But there’s more.

Mattel has not only instructed its suppliers to avoid wood and paper from companies involved in controversial forest destruction like APP, but also to increase the amount of recycled paper and wood certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in their packaging.

APP has been driving the destruction of rainforests in Indonesia for years, including the forest homes of the last 400 Sumatran tigers. Despite expensive ad campaigns claiming they are environmentally responsible, Greenpeace has shown they are continuing to drive the destruction of tiger habitat.

That’s why Greenpeace launched an international campaign to go after their customers, knowing that, once the company’s true colors were exposed, companies would drop them and help protect Indonesia's forests. That campaign is working.

In June we launched a report calling out leading toy makers for wrapping their toys in packaging made from rainforest destruction. Within a month, Lego agreed to drop companies involved in deforestation, including APP. Now we can celebrate Mattel adding to that progress, dropping APP and releasing a global paper buying policy.

I’m so proud of what we’ve done together. The news today is a big win for Indonesian rainforests, Sumatran tigers and our planet. But our work isn’t done. APP is still destroying Indonesian rainforests, and there are still companies doing business with them. We need to keep the pressure on until APP finally learns that rainforest destruction is bad for business and cleans up its act.
With your support, I know we will succeed.

For the forests,

Rolf Skar
Greenpeace Senior Forest Campaigner

Compassion and science

Last year I wrote an article I found at the NYT on how scientists are trying to measure the effects of meditation on humans, specifically how kindness and compassion affect human mind (check the post here).

Recently, Sergio shared a video he found on the same topic where Matthieu Ricard, a prominent scientific and monk, talks at Google's headquarters about the benefits of meditation on human mind. He shows some of the results of the previously mentioned research, that point out how meditation acts positively on our well-being.

He also explains how happiness is an inner state influenced by external factors but actually dependent only of our state of mind and how, by training our mind (meditating) we can cope with the ups and downs of life.

During my Vipassana training I learned that life is an ever changing flow and that everything is impermanent: good and bad things come and go. They are part of the equation as nature is composed of darkness and light. Understanding this and learning how to remain equable (even-tempered) in every situation (specially the worse ones) are the key elements that free us from suffering and consequently enable us to aspire to real happiness.

You can take a look at Ricard's talk at Google by clicking the video below:

Healthy hot cakes recipe

In the past days I had some craving for Hot Cakes but didn't find any of those "instant hot cakes" flours I used to buy in Mexico that were delicious. I did some research and came across some recipes but decided to modify them and make my own healthier version.

Please try it, hopefully you will like it as much as we did at home!

Serving size depends on how big you make them. With the following ingredients I made 6 hot cakes of cca 14 cm each:
  • 2 cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1.5 spoon of baking powder
  • 1 spoon of brown sugar
  • 0.5 spoon of sea salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1.5 cup of milk
  • 2 spoons of oil
  • butter
How to make them?
  1. Mix all ingredientes (except the butter) until smooth.
  2. Once the batter is ready pour it into a skillet (that has already been warmed and greased with a bit of butter).
  3. Turn the hot cake over once it starts to "bubble". When both sides have a light brownish color they are ready to serve!
  4. Repeat the last step until the batter is over or save the rest if you want for next day.
  5. Top them with honey, fruits, syrup, cottage cheese, butter or whatever you desire. A cup of milk or chocolate milk are perfect companions ;)
Easy right? Now there is no excuse not to make them to your loved ones as you do not need advanced cooking skills for this recipe, plus the preparation time is about 15 minutes!

Enjoy! :))

Managing the ego

Quoted from: http://www.ourultimatereality.com/managing-the-ego.html

One of the very biggest challenges facing the evolution of any person is in overcoming the demands of the individual ego. It is simply not possible to achieve enduring and genuine progress until the ego has been well and truly brought under control to the extent that it no longer exerts any negative or detrimental influence upon self or anyone else.

The ego is that aspect of a person striving to make its presence felt both on the individual personality and upon others, constantly demanding to be satisfied and satiated otherwise discontent and personal disharmony will be the result its demands are not fulfilled. The ego is responsible for many negative human traits, including but certainly not limited to being critical and judgemental of others, being rigid and inflexible, being manipulative, need to feel superior, feeling anxious and fearful, mood swings, taking everything too personally, taking everything too seriously, constant need for approval and praise, feeling hurried and driven to do things, competing rather than cooperating, feeling resentful and guilty, unable to live in the present moment, addictions to alcohol, tobacco and other Mind altering substances, overly concerned with personal appearance, overly concerned with success, feeling insecure, constant worry over trivialities, clinging to the past, feelings of despair and hopelessness, feeling life is meaningless, and the need for power over others. All of these are seriously negative human traits, and ones that can easily make a persons life a misery.

The ego causes an illusory focus on those aspects of the physical world that are really not at all important for peace, harmony and happiness, and most importantly for enduring and true evolution and progression. Without true inner peace, harmony and living in Spirit, true progress quite simply cannot be made. It must therefore be considered to be an unwelcome adversary, focussing on the individual self rather than absolute reality, and above all one that focuses on self rather than the most sacred path and true meaning of life.

Many people are very quick to blame others or the world in general for their own problems; it is always much easier for people to blame everything and everyone else rather than having to face up to everything themselves, thereby taking full responsibility for their own thoughts and actions. Whenever anything adverse happens the immediate reaction of many is usually focussed towards looking for scapegoats rather than looking inwards towards self for the real cause of the corresponding effect. Some people are so much under the control of their own ego that they really are absolutely convinced they are always right and everyone else, and indeed the rest of the Universe must always be completely wrong; a level of ego which can have most
detrimental consequences indeed for such an individual.

The ego constantly strives to have people believe they are not responsible for their own actions but are rather a victim of circumstance or of the state of the world in general. Such a person might blame family, friends, politicians, people they work with, work bosses, or simply ascribe negative effects to such non-existent notions as “bad luck”, “fortune” or “chance”. In fact absolutely anyone and everyone they can associate with a situation which was ultimately caused by their own personal actions will be blamed rather than blaming the true cause; themselves.

The ego constantly strives to be always right, always superior, never wrong and never inferior. It constantly seeks self-importance, power and superiority over others, often at any cost, and regardless of who they are affecting or hurting at the same time.

The ego is not something that can simply be destroyed; it is rather a vital aspect of individuality, for life and indeed for conscious awareness. The ultimate objective therefore is not to attempt to destroy it, but rather to transcend its influence, thereby bringing it under complete control in order to serve its intended purpose by accentuating its necessary positive attributes while suppressing the negative and destructive attributes so detrimental to genuine peace, happiness, harmony, and most importantly personal evolution and progress.

The ego can be likened to a telescope on the world collecting sensory information, and delivering such information to the five physical senses and the Mind. The fact is however, many people still do not simply accept the information being received through the ego as a necessary part of conscious existence, they also proceed to analyse or very often even over-analyse the information received through the ego, reacting or over-reacting to it accordingly.

The ego can be likened to a postal service, delivering letters to the Mind for advisory and information purposes. These letters should be immediately acknowledged and then filed away for future reference if appropriate. Instead, many people will actually open the letters and then proceed to tell the ego how to respond to the sensory information received. Furthermore, many people have a tendency to see only those things they want to see, and accordingly are selective over which letters to the Mind they will open and which they will subsequently respond to.

The ego likes to make comparisons, particularly with other people. In an of itself making comparisons is fine for the purposes of making a necessary choice, the problems really arise it is not satisfied by merely making comparisons but is allowed to extend the comparisons to include comparative judgements about other people, possessions, and everything else the ego erroneously regards as important. It will for example encourage people to take up various sports, hobbies and skills, often not merely for the benefits or health, happiness and relaxation which they can surely bring, but also as a means of seeming superior to others by means of making comparisons with others relative to these pastimes.

The ego however does need to make comparisons as a function of living in the material world. For example, when walking around a supermarket, comparisons need to be made between the quality and prices of items to be purchased. This sort of comparison is very useful and is being applied for positive reasons. The problems would arise in this case however when comparing an item, not for genuine reasons of price or quality, but rather with view to making a purchasing decision based on the perception that the item is superior to an equivalent item already owned by a neighbour, friend or relative.

The same example would hold true in purchasing a new car for example, and indeed any highly visible object by which people believe they will be personally judged. In the example of the car, subjective comparisons must of course be made between all of the options available in order to take account such fundamentals as fuel economy, insurance costs, servicing costs and many other necessary and relevant factors, all of which need to be justifiably reconciled before such a significant purchase can be justified.

The ego will take over if allowed to do so however by endeavouring to ensure the car is bigger than those of friends, neighbours, relatives and others, has more seats, a bigger engine, better acceleration and top speed, more internal luxuries, better electronic equipment and so on. The ego in this case has clearly caused the purchaser of the car to make a significant purchasing decision over and above that which was fundamentally justifiable, based almost entirely on egotistical reasons; the need for a feeling of perceived superiority over others.

The ego often exerts a particularly strong influence in personal relationships. Everyone should be attracted to a partner for individual personality and other genuine qualities and virtues, because they share common interests for example, and in general because they are very well suited to each other. Some people however will be attracted to a partner for much more superficial reasons, often because they perceive the partner to be glamorous, handsome, appears to be generally attractive in the eyes of others, or very often because they are perceived to be wealthy. In these cases the ego is in full control over something as fundamentally important as choosing a partner, or even a future husband or wife. This of course is a very major contributory reason as to why so many marriages result in separation, divorce or ongoing unhappiness, a situation that is escalating due to the demands of the ego, and the focus and priorities of mankind generally, often motivated by materialism.
The ego has delusions of grandeur and likes nothing more than to be noticed, flattered and admired. In reality of course nothing ever makes anyone better or in any way more superior as compared with anyone else. Every single person without exception is an equal aspect of God, made in the true Spiritual image of God, but each having unique characteristics, abilities, shortcomings to face and so on.

If we judge others then we equally judge ourselves. Acceptance is a most important aspect of life, acceptance of everyone for what they really are and what they represent, and most importantly as an equal expression of God, The Source, The First Cause of Whom we are all equal aspects.

The other side of the ego is in feeling worse or inferior by comparison with others. People might perceive themselves for example to feel useless, unworthy, unwanted, and many other such negative perceptions of self. There really is no difference at all between this side of the ego and the one suffering from delusions of grandeur; they are all positive and negative aspects and degrees of the same thing. Ultimately to transcend the ego is to know beyond any doubts whatsoever that everyone without any exceptions are equal, and to live and interact with people and situations accordingly. The Source, The First Cause, God is perfection, and everyone without exception is an inseparable expression and equal aspect of that same perfection.

The ego will revel in exerting its influence over many other aspects of peoples lives. For example many people like to feel sorry for themselves by feeling they are a victim or a martyr in some way. Such people will often feel everything is hopeless, that they are burdened with demands and responsibilities they cannot handle, feel unappreciated, misunderstood, feel badly treated and generally believing they are the victim of bad luck, chance, fortune and other such non-existent notions.

The ego does not like responsibility and will often do whatever it can to deny and avoid responsibility. Typical signs the ego is in control of responsibility are when people blame others for everything that goes wrong in their own lives. The ego will typically blame anyone and everyone except themselves for anything happening they do not like or will not accept responsibility for, be it by the government, a friend, a neighbour, a family member, a work colleague or indeed anyone else who happens to be nearby at the time and can conveniently be blamed. As we already know, each and every person creates their own reality, and thus to blame others is quite simply futile.

This is not to say however people are knowingly creating situations giving rise to the response of the ego, but are rather doing so subconsciously. It is not until all negative situations are accepted and fully analysed can the realisation be reached as to the origins of the situation, and thereby positive actions be taken to make the necessary corrections.

Accepting and taking full responsibility for all such situations is empowering, and those who can achieve this will have considerably more control over every aspect of their own lives, will be in conscious control of creating their own reality, and as a direct result experience a much happier, more peaceful and harmonious life.
The ego also revels in the illusion of always being busy. People often like to believe they are so busy with daily work, chores and other responsibilities that they have no time available for anything or anyone else, often including themselves. The more a person dwells on this illusion of busyness, the busier they will believe they really are; a situation that can quickly escalate into a full busyness martyr syndrome. Worse still, if the ego believes a person is not busy enough it will create work in order to justify the illusion of busyness, often repeating the same chores and tasks over and over again until they are perceived to be satisfactory, and the need for feeling busy has accordingly satisfied the ego. Such people always consider themselves to be very busy, always endeavouring to make the people around them believe they really are busy, and yet still getting nowhere in particular and not achieving much of any real significance, certainly not in proportion to their perceived workload.

The ego also often revels in disaster, particularly when it happens to people who are not liked. People unfortunately often revel in the misfortunes of others on whatever scale the misfortune occurs, whether it is a problem at work, someone losing their employment, a marriage breaking up or simply a general lack of ability by someone to accomplish something. Unfortunately, people generally find it much easier to revel in the misfortune of others than to equally share in their happiness when good and positive things happen to the same people. This is again another extremely negative and insidious attribute of the ego, believing itself to be always superior and revelling in the misfortune of others in order to satisfy itself and to create an illusion of perceived superiority over others.

Notwithstanding all of its insidious influences, the ego is nevertheless a vital aspect of conscious awareness and can therefore never be destroyed. At the same time the ego is frequently responsible for considerable misery and suffering, and a lack of peace and harmony generally. It strives to dominate and feel superior, and always insists on getting its own way if at all possible. The ego can, and profoundly will hold people back both in everyday life and in personal evolution and progression on the path. Until such time as the ego is tamed and its influence fully transcended, true and enduring progress, peace, happiness and harmony quite simply cannot be achieved and maintained.

Tips of a successful speech

Lots of people are afraid of speaking publicly, therefore I would like to share with you some tips I found at a blog from the Hardvard Business Review. Enjoy!:

  1. Know your goal. When the speech is over, what do you want the audience saying about it and you? What difference do you want to make? Most speakers never ask this of themselves.
  2. Memorize your speech. That's right. Memorize every word of it. Deliver it in front of a mirror five times, six times, ten times. Then deliver it while your kid is screaming in the background, to develop the confidence that you can recite it no matter what distraction pops up. Why memorize it? Because nothing will put an audience to sleep faster than someone reading from a prepared text. Because when you memorize it, it stops being about getting the words right and starts being about getting the feeling right. Imagine if Andrea Bocelli didn't memorize the words to the songs in his repertoire. How much room do you think there would be for him to feel them?
  3. If you don't want to knock it out of the park, don't follow rule 2.
  4. Practice the transitions. What will get you from one point to the next? Is it "if," or "when," or "then I." Know and memorize the precise construction of each transitional sentence. It's in uncertainty about transitions from one point to the next that people lose their grace in public and start saying "aaahhhh."
  5. Don't fear silence. You want to silence a room? Don't talk. Be silent and look at the audience. Five seconds. Seven seconds. Just taking them in. Connecting with them. But never do it for effect. Do it to get intimate with your audience. It silences a room like you wouldn't believe. Why? Because it's not normal. Audiences are used to speakers filling every nanosecond with the sound of their own voice, leaving zero time for reflection. Audiences are used to being avoided, not appreciated. When they come upon someone who can command their own silence, they understand, "This person is serious."
  6. Never, ever, ever use PowerPoint as your speech notes. The slides are for your audience, not for you. The moment they see you rattling through a list of bullets that you should have had the courtesy to memorize, they put you in a category with every other boring presenter they've ever seen and you've lost them.
  7. Give something of yourself. Don't be afraid to feel something in front of an audience. Don't be afraid to say something that will make you feel something, and that will make the audience feel something.
  8. Be yourself. Don't feel you need to mimic the testosterone level of a motivational speaker. You will look and feel fake. Robert Kennedy never tried to copy Martin Luther King's rhetorical skills. RFK was soft-spoken. He owned that. And as a result, was every bit as affecting as King.
  9. Don't speak in abstractions. Say what it is that you mean. Plainly. Avoid the lexicon of your own trade. People are sick of it. It doesn't mean anything to them anymore. Speak in human.
  10. Feel what's happening in the room and use it to connect your speech to this moment. In this way, if your mike goes out, you can make a joke out of it, rather than it making a nervous wreck, and a joke, out of you.
  11. Make eye contact until it scares you. Distribute your eye contact around the room. Not for effect, but because you genuinely want to connect with the people in front of you.
  12. Don't miss your own talk. It is a privilege and an honor to be asked to speak. Take the opportunity to commune with other human beings. It's like getting to watch a falling star.
  13. Come from a place of love for your audience. That's mastery. When you allow yourself to feel the humanity of your audience, you have succeeded in taking the focus off yourself. There is a universe of difference between this place and a PowerPoint presentation. This is the place from which change is made. From here you can move mountains.
Whole post can be found here.

Cow 'Prison' Application Withdrawn

Another proof that our voice can make a difference: Thanks to a negative reaction from public (14,000 objections were registered by the district council, out of which 6,000 were from PETA supporters), the company Nocton Dairies has withdrawn its application to build an intensive dairy unit in Lincolnshire. The massive factory farm would have meant severe suffering for thousands of cows.

According to Nocton Dairies' plan, the cows on this factory farm would have spent most of their lives in barren sheds. They would have been treated as if they were mere milk machines and deprived of everything that is natural and important to them, including the right to socialise and raise their young.

Cows on these huge dairy factory farms are forced to produce unnaturally high yields of milk, and their bodies are pushed to exhaustion by repeated impregnation. Their calves are torn away from them within hours or days of their birth, and the milk meant for them is sold in supermarkets.

We can choose what dairy produce we buy and where. We can buy the first product we see (or the cheapest one), without thinking, or we can spend one or two minutes more, read the labels and choose a product that is ex. Bio. In the first case, we will probably consume poor quality milk from the suffering cows, and sponsor the massive factory farms. In the second case, we will support the farmers that give their animals a better treatment - the cows have more living space, they are free to move, can socialise, aren't stressed and receive food of better quality. Moreover, Bio products should not be artificially coloured, flavoured etc. Thanks to all this, the products are much healthier and tastier.

The choice is yours... As always.

No more animal testing by Lipton!

As a consequence of PETA's campaign, Unilever (maker of PG tips and Lipton teas) has commited to stop all animal testing for the process of tea making with immediate effect.
Eventhough the commitment has an exception ("on the rare occasion in which a foreign government, such as China, or a government agency that doesn't recognise the non-animal methods in use in the EU and US were to require animal tests.") we congratulate everybody who took part on this effort.
Let this be proof that the road to a more civilized and fair world depends on each one of us.
Have a great week and do not forget to send your answers for the Yoga mats!

Stress in your family??

We all assume that small kids and babies are very receptive, that their brain is like a sponge, they can learn very fast, and even that their senses are very high receptive.

What it is interesting is when we filter the stress, a recently article explains how kids under the age of eight years old, can filter the stress from mom and dad, and the couple not even realize.

So in order to boost our education at home, we must be relax :)

Have a happy week,

Sergio

Tested on animals?

Are the products you buy tested on animals? Do you know? Do you care?

To be honest, I haven't cared much until recently. But a couple of weeks ago, when I saw again the quantity of nearly similar products in a drug-store, I decided that I will start to choose those that are not tested on animals. And I started investigating.

If you'd like to know, whether your favourite cosmetic company tests its products on animals, check PETA's website - you will find there a regularly updated database of companies that do and that don't test on animals. I was shocked how many well known companies still test on animals - L'Oreal (Biotherm, Cacharel, Garnier, Giorgio Armani, Helena Rubinstein, Lancôme, Matrix Essentials, Maybelline, Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Redken, Soft Sheen, Vichy), Johnshon & Johnson (Aveeno, Clean & Clear, Listerine, Lubriderm, Neutrogena, Rembrandt, ROC), Procter & Gamble, Unilever (Dove), Max Factor... !!!

Be careful. Even if a product is labeled "not tested on animals", you still cannot be sure that it (or its components) was really not tested on animals. In some cases, the final products are not tested on animals, however some of the components are. In other cases, the company simply pays a different company to do the dirty job for them. Also, even if one product is marked "not tested on animals", there can be other products in the company's line that are tested on animals... As you see, you always need to investigate deeper - check the companies' websites, search in the PETA's database,... take advantage of internet.

Most people don't care whether the products they buy were tested on animals or not - I think that this is also due to the fact that they only see the final product and they don't ask what was happening before it appeared in the store. I am sure that if people saw how the animals are tortured, they would think twice what they buy. Unfortunately, many people prefare to stay ignorant. Why? Because it is more comfortable.

Find below a video presented by PETA. It is one of the few videos about animal testing that is "watchable". However, I stongly recommend you to look for more videos, you will start to see things differently...

I'd like to add that is not only cosmetics and household cleaners that are still frequently tested on animals. One of the products you probably even wouldn't suspect to be tested on animals is tea. The company behind Lipton teas has been testing tea on animals, and paying others to test. On the other hand, some companies confirmed that they don't test tea on animals - Honest Tea, Twinings, Stash Tea, Luzianne Tea. You can read more here.

I appologise if my article left you depressed, but I am convinced that it is important that we care about these things. Only if we care and choose carefully what products we buy, we can influence what is happening. Thanks to our choices (not buying products from companies that test on animals), we can push companies to stop testing on animals - this approach is, in my opinion, much more effective than signing petitions or demonstrating in the streets.

Namaste.

Wonderful garlic

Last month I went to have one wisdow tooth removal. At the end of the procedure the medic instructed me to take one antibiotic. What was so incredible is that he told me that I can't eat any fruit with this one, that the vitamin C might make an allergy reaction.

As far as I know vitamin C is something required for the body almost like fire sparks for a car, small amounts that let the petrol to burn.

I decided to take my own preventive antiboitic...

organic, crushed, raw garlic.

What makes garlic so healthy?

Garlic contains allicin, a powerful medicinal compound. Allicin is released when you chop or crush the garlic. More allicin is produced when garlic is chopped finely. Allicin works as an antibiotic and antifungal but it decomposes fast so it should be used immediately. Garlic is effective when taken raw because by cooking it, heat destroys the allicin.

Garlic smells good while cooking it but it can give you a bad breath. The smell lingers because of the essential oils in garlic which enter in your blood and stays there for several hours. How do you get the bad smell off your breath? You can try to block the smell with mouthwash or use minty toothpaste when brushing your teeth. You may try also some odorless garlic pills on the market or you can try using fresh parsley which is a natural odor-eater and it contains vitamin C.

Healing with Garlic

Researchers and scientists have been studying its benefits. Below are some of the diseases where garlic can be useful. It is recommended to always check with your doctor or physician before trying garlic for your illness.

Arthritis – inflammation, pain, and swelling of bones and joints

You can take garlic extract, rub a garlic poultice (garlic mash with olive oil) into the aching areas, or drink garlic tea (mixed clove of garlic, one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, one teaspoon of honey and water).

Asthma – lung congestion and shortness of breath with wheezing

Asthmatics these days take inhalers, some steroids, sometimes they get hospitalized and may lead to other respiratory illness like bronchitis, pneumonia, broncho-pneumonia, tuberculosis, or emphysema. Garlic syrup can help an asthmatic to breathe easier. Garlic syrup contains peeled garlic buds, vinegar, distilled water, glycerin, and honey. Check with your physician first.

Acne

Garlic’s antibiotic and cleansing properties can help clear the skin. Consult first your dermatologist if you have any.

Athlete’s Foot – foot pain and itching

Try eating raw garlic or taking garlic pills. Try to apply a little garlic oil directly to the area.

Burns Puncture a garlic oil capsule and rub it directly into the burn. Check with your doctor first.

Cancer

Garlic contains allyl sulfides that help reduce the risk of cancer by limiting the number of cancerous precursors from becoming cancer. The allyl sulfur compounds weaken the cancer cells. Garlic also contains allicin which has antioxidants that can boost the immune system and conquer cancer cells. It’s best to eat garlic raw and fresh. Cooking it deactivates the release of allinase enzyme. Garlic powder or oil can also release cancer-fighting elements. Some studies have found that garlic is especially good at preventing digestive, breast, and prostate cancers. Always check with your physician before starting your garlic regimen or diet.

Colds and Flu

At the onset of a cold, garlic can reduce the length of your cold. Just make sure that you take raw, fresh, crushed garlic or the garlic supplement (pill) has allicin in it.

Coughs

You can take garlic tea (3 minced cloves of garlic added to a cup of boiled water, strained) or garlic syrup or elixir (6 minced cloves of garlic and a cup of honey).

Diabetes

a disease where the body cannot produce or properly use insulin which is a hormone that converts sugar, starches, and other foods into energy. Diabetics sometimes take insulin injections. Garlic can be added to their meals to thin their blood and improve blood circulation.

High Cholesterol

Cholesterol is the waxy substance in the blood plasma. High cholesterol can cause heart attack or stroke. Garlic can boost your HDL (high density lipoproteins) level which pushes excess cholesterol out of your body. A gram of condensed garlic extract (same as nine cloves) can lower harmful LDL (low density lipoproteins) levels.

High Blood Pressure

A few studies showed that garlic can lower your blood pressure by 5 to 10 percent. Try garlic powder with allicin content.

Heart Disease
– the number one killer in America, attacks both men and women.
Heart attacks and strokes are caused by high cholesterol, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, and plaque formation inside the arteries which create blockages in the circulatory system. Any of these can stop the flow of blood to the heart and brain. Garlic thins the blood by dissolving the fat particles and blood clots.

As with any other food, take garlic in moderation. Garlic might interact with prescription medicines, can cause allergies, upset stomach, or skin burns if your skin is sensitive. Always check with your doctor before starting any garlic regimen especially if you’re pregnant, under medication, or scheduled for surgery.

I encourage everyone to do more deep dive research about garlic, there are plenty of articles over all the internet.

Have a great day!
