Day 1 (New Life)

Today I decided to become vegetarian. There are many reasons for taking that decision but I will only name the ones I consider more important.

I always considered myself omnivorous and more than once I said I would never be able to stop eating meat; particularly beef. I just couldn’t imagine myself without eating a delicious steak, or some tacos al pastor (which were among my favorite Mexican delicacies). The idea of quitting meat was, at some point in my life, just unacceptable. When I found out about the unethical treatment of animals in slaughter houses, farms, etc, I tried to buy whenever possible (budget wise) bio products or made sure that there was a label stating that the animals were treated as best as possible. I just couldn’t think of my life without eating meat. I grew up eating meat and I thought I would die like that.

It is not that I didn’t care about their suffering while getting killed; I just thought that the impact of stop eating meat would be so minimal that it would not really make much of a difference. How completely wrong, or misinformed, I was!

So, what made me change my mind so drastically? Some time before Harmonic World was founded (around last year) I had my first serious approach to vegetarianism. I gave it a try for the sake of the health benefits that Sergio was always telling me it has. I must say that even though I liked, and my body felt lighter, I “felt” there was something missing. People say it takes 21 days to change a habit, I must say that these attempts didn’t last longer than 3 or 4 days.

What is different this time? Well, I can say my love for living beings has gone stronger as a consequence of my dog (his name is Kompa) and I now I am also completely convinced that even one person can make a huge difference. I do not want to keep supporting animal killing or suffering in anyway, therefore I invite you to follow up my transition.

On the other hand, I would like to make this blog as interactive as possible, a space for reflection and a tool for promoting awareness. The more we are, the merrier, the more ideas we bring the better. Only together we will create a truly Harmonic World.

Welcome to our blog, your blog!
