Are you sick of fruit and vegetable without taste that is offered to us in the majority of shops? Do you prefare to consume fruit and vegetable that is harvested when naturally matured instead of those that are matured artificially during or after transportation? Go to Farmers' markets.
Farmer's markets are places where Czech farmers are selling their fresh products directly to final consumers. Farmers' markets that are opened on regular basis are situated at Kubanske namesti (Prague 10) and Naplavka (near Palackeho namesti, Prague 2) - see opening hours - but there are more then ten markets in total all over Prague that open ocassionally. According to the latest information available, one will be opened at Jiriho z Podebrad in September as well.
What can you buy at these markets? Basically all fruit and vegetable that is currently beeing harvested (some people may wonder why they cannot get tomatoes in May but that's part of the education the these markets provide ;-D ), fish, meat, dairy produce, eggs, mushrooms, honey, pastry,... At Kubanske namesti, you can buy fresh cow milk from a vending machine (however, be careful with milk as it is not very healthy as Rodrigo alreday mentioned in one of his articles).
I can tell you that there is a huge difference between fruit and vegetable that mature in the garden in the sun and those that are offered in the majority of shops. You may not believe me but there is a huge difference even between the taste of garlic that is grown and harvested in the propper way and the one you buy in the Vietnamese shops (nearly without taste). You may laugh but once you try and are able compare, you realize it is true. Moreover, I don't need to mention that fruits and vegetables that are not matured artificially are also much healthier...
So why not to visit them? I promise, you will not regret.
Namaste.
